Data Deduplication 2.0

January 18, 2010

Is your data set growing out of control?

Are you missing backup windows?

Do you wish you could find a cost effective disaster recovery solution?

Isn’t restoring data a pain?

Are you consistently buying expensive drive enclosures to manage data growth?

Maybe you’re running out of space, power & cooling in your data center(s)?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, it is likely that you have lots of duplicate data in your environment and you keep backing it up all the time.  There are many ways to tackle these challenging issues and a major component of these solutions is the target for your backup data.

Because of deduplication technologies many people want to tell you that tape is dead.  I disagree, it isn’t dead, it is just shouldn’t be used for backup & restore.

Nexsan Technologies and FalconStor Announce DeDupe SG 2.0 – Taking on EMC?  InfoStor SearchStorage

The latest version of the DeDupe SG product is slated for release this week.  This appliance will feature a performance increase of 200% over its predecessor, allow for 150 remote sites to replicate home and support a high availability configuration.  With a maximum data ingest rate of 5.4TB per hour and maximum logical capacity of 1.5PB under single management console you can solve many common backup challenges.  Many of our customers use this space to backup multiple days/weeks/months to disk and using tape for something it is very good at, sitting on shelf in your archive.

Because our event downtown with EqualLogic and ProStor systems was such a success, we are going to hold another session for technologists in the Boulder area.  Anyone is welcome to join us, simply follow the registration link below.  I also came across some great product announcements from our partners LifeSize and Nexsan.
